New Found Glory Concert [2/16/10]
Feb. 17th, 2010 02:09 pmSo, cousin (Jen) showed up yesterday around 4. We made it to the venue by 5, and stood around in 20 degree weather until 6. We were all quite thoroughly chilled, but we were only six people back in line (and since the show was sold out, that was a very very good thing) We got in and managed, as per usual, to get spots on the rail. I left Dad and Jen at the rail and went to go check out the merch table, I came back to see that some girl was trying to squash up between them where I was standing. Things... went downhill from there.
I eventually got my spot back (stealthily moving whilst the girl was distracted) and the first band, Fireworks, came on at 7. They had the music cranked up way too loud and I did not understand anything that they said, nor had I ever heard of them. Oh, I stand corrected, they did scream 'FUCK' a couple times, which is funny because it was supposedly an all ages show. Apparently, while I had never heard of them, a lot of people had. And, thus began the fun. Being started pushing and shoving off to the other side, and a couple people were fucking stupid enough to body surf (I continue to insist that Security should either let them fall and crack their skulls open since they're dumb enough to do it and clearly it's just natural selection. If not that, for liability reasons, then they should at least boot them out - I saw one guy go by three times). Our trio remained unbothered for most of that nonsense though.
Hellogoodbye was up next. They were awesome. EVERYONE BEHAVED!!! They played: When We First Met*, All Time Lows, Shimmy, Baby It's Fact, Jamie, Finding Something*, Oh Its Love, and Here In Your Arms. (*=New) Got their setlist, which made me happy.
Saves The Day was up next. I will never, ever, ever be a fan of theirs, if only on principle. I heard absolutely nothing of their music, at all. The second they started everything turned into a giant mosh-pit. IT WASN'T EVEN THE MAIN BAND! I'D NEVER HEARD OF THESE PEOPLE!!! WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ABOUT? I had this fucking insane girl next to me (as I'd moved to shield my cousin from the insanity) who couldn't seem to understand that I was not going to be pushed around. WHY ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT PEOPLE PUSH YOU BACK WHEN YOU SHOVE THEM INTO RAILINGS? She attempted to stomp on my foot - she was like 5 foot nothing and weighed probably 90lbs - this was not going to hurt me, I've had 120lb dogs walk all over my feet and had a horse step on one once. At one point she swung at me and hit me in the face - I stomped on her foot and got a pleasing reaction. I also contemplated dropping my gum in her hair, but I resisted. Somehow. And we had people body surfing over us. I got clubbed in the head with someone's shoe, my Dad and Jen both nearly got the same. And all of this wall-like blocking did wonders for the hand I almost broke the other day and the sore arm courtesy of a tetanus shot on Monday. And the band played for like... ever. Both the insane girl and the annoying one who tried to steal my spot both somehow ended up on the rail - at which point I felt defeated.
Finally, though, after what seemed like eternity, Saves the day stopped and Jen and I bailed out of the madness. We hit the merch table for posters and got two of the guys from Hellogoodbye to sign our posters/setlists and got pics. Dad came back a few songs after New Found Glory started. We left about 2/3 of the way through their setlist which consisted of: Better Off Dead, Dressed To Kill, Sincerely Me, Hit Or Miss, Second To Last, Eyesore, Vegas, Suck It, Black & Blue, Boy Crazy, All About Her, Ballad |this is where we left| Understatement, Don't Let Her Pull You Down, All Downhill, Truck Stop Blues, Head On Collision, My Friend's Over You. It was like the 10th anniversary of their first CD or something so they played like the whole CD and then some.
All in all, worst concert experience to date (I didn't think things could get worse than the incident at the Saving Abel concert, but I was so so so wrong) but came out of it with signed setlist and poster for Hellogoodbye and the theory that my cousin is cursed (Boys Like Girls ended in similar chaos, but less so).
In conclusion: I hate people.
