1. Phantom Stallion: Heartbreak Bronco = Done.
Phantom Stallion: Moonrise = Done.
Phantom Stallion: Kidnapped Colt = Done.
2. Okay, so. Concert.
Dad and I headed out around 4:30 or so, made it out to Columbia just before the gates open, so we sat around in the nice. air-conditioned car until they did at 6 (I looooove ticketed concerts, I have to say). It was... startlingly empty inside. Totally not crowded at all. which was weird. I have never seen that place so empty. Grabbed some food and sodas, and I bought a t-shirt and a poster, and then we headed down to our front row seats. It was so hot under the Pavillion. Jeez. Chilled with my nook until 7:30.
Angel Taylor was first up. Wasn't terribly impressed with her stuff, but she was okay. She opens for Train & BSB in a couple of weeks, so I'll get to hear it all over again, probably. Dunno what she played in her 5 song set, other than that she covered Radiohead's 'Creep' which is cool pretty much when anyone does it. During her set was also when we realized we had a problem. The camera guy filming the stage for the videoboards was... directly in front of us. Seriously, we saw nothing but him for half of her set. Not that we particularly cared on hers, but this was setting up to be devastatingly problematic for the rest of the show.
She was off after like... Idk. 25 minutes. Kris Allen came on right on schedule at 8:10. Right after he started playing, we moved over to the center of the front row - since it was still distressingly empty and no one was sitting there - and thusly mostly avoided the evil cameraman. Hnnng. Kris. <3 He played Can’t Stay Away, Heartless (Kanye West cover, Idol song), Alright With Me, The Truth, Man In The Mirror (Michael Jackson cover, Idol song), Is It Over?, Live Like We’re Dyin’ (The Script cover), and ended with Come Together (The Beatles cover, Idol song). When it was over, he stuck around to hand out guitar pics and setlists and throw water bottles at those of us who walked up. I got one of his guitar pics, and a setlist, and Dad caught a water bottle that went flying toward his head. He was done by like... 8:50. Which totally sucked. He could have played longer, damn it! He should have played longer!!! I went up to see if the Merch guys knew anything about if he was signing or not, but they didn't know. By the time I got back, the required crazy person had found Dad.
The guy sitting behind the seats we were borrowing was all huffy about Dad and I sitting there because 'he couldn't see'. Dad sat for all of Kris Allen's set. I sat for all but one song. The guy wasn't even paying attention to the music, anyway. When Dad explained that we were staying there unless the seat's actual occupants came forward because WE couldn't see, the guy got all arrogant and 'well, that's your problem' on Dad. Oi. Dad's response was 'I'm in Row AAA, you're in Row BBB, so it's your problem, too.' ...We'll get back to this momentarily.
Barenaked Ladies started up at like... 9:20 (this is why Kris totally could have played longer, it didn't take them 30 minutes to get the stage together). Just as they started their first song, the occupants of our current seats showed up, so we returned to our real ones. (The guy who got all pissy with Dad probably ate his words, because the ones who replaced us were crazy and drunk and stood the whole time! Bwahaha! Justice!) BNL played: Who Needs Sleep?, Old Apartment and Falling For the First Time, then they did some crazyawesome Into Rap thingy in which the BNL guys described how hard it was not to introduce their opening acts (Kris Allen and Angel Taylor, obvs) as Criss Angel, ohthelulz. Then they went into Every Subway Car (w/ Angel Taylor), then Bank Job, Easy, Eraser, Another Heartbreak, The Love We’re In, and The Sound Of Your Voice.
I think it was somewhere in here, but I kind of lost track, but Jim, the bassist, wandered over from his side of the stage to our side. And started pointing. He pointed at me and I was just like 'Crap! What did I do? Does it look like my picture taking is video or something!? HALP!' But, miraculously, I was not in trouble. He set his bass down so I could reach it and was all like 'Here~! Play!' *dies* Hnng. I was just like 'Yeah. Sure, okay' and just kept strumming on it like an idiot. Made especially more awkward by the fact that the oh-so-annoying camera guy turned to face us. When I was released from this awesome torture (I kept like stopping to make sure I was still supposed to be going. God, it was so awkward and weird).
Back to the songs: It’s All Been Done, Too Little Too Late, I Saw It, You Run Away (<3), Four Seconds, The Big Bang Theory, One Week, Pinch Me (the crazy drunk guys a few peoples down from us threw underwear at the guys on stage at this point, because the song evidently... required it), and If I Had A Million Dollars. From there, they went into an Outro Rap thingy that coupled with a Magic (Pilot cover)/New York (Jay Z & Alicia Keys cover)/Tonight’s Gonna Be A Good Night (Black Eyed peas cover)/Baby (Justin Bieber cover)/California Girls (Katy Perry cover). Encored with Alcohol, Watching The Northern Lights, and Brian Wilson. They finished right before 11 (which is the venue curfew, so, yeah). Raced up to the stage to try and get the setlist. Barely made it (the stage guys there aren't anywhere near as helpful as well... anywhere else), but I did get it.
Dad and I headed up to check and see if Kris was signing, but they said no. T_T So we left.
