James Boswell's 'The Life of Samuel Johnson' is a phenomenally boring book. Not only is it about one of the periods of history that I hate (I despise Revolutionary Era America, I much prefer either Ancient Greek/Roman Era, Medieval stuff or Civil War on up in American History), but also Boswell is just annoying.

For one, he knew Johnson for all of like a year and two or three other people wrote biographies on the dude, too. Also, he completely fails at picking out what is actually relevant to the book. The part I'm reading now (in the abridged version, at that) is like 40 pages long as is evidently like a day by day account of dinners he had with Johnson. 'On Wednesday, April 21... ', 'On Tuesday, April 27...' It's insane. Really. Please take this book away from me. I think there are 12 year olds on fanfiction.net who could write better and more effectively than Boswell. Oi.
