So, had a concert last night. Was not particularly impressive. We'd never been to the place before, Bourbon Street, and unless someone absolutely fantastical comes there, we probably won't go back. It was okay, I guess, but it's in just the right place between big and small to be annoying. I either like really small venues like Recher where you can pretty much guarantee hanging out with or at least meeting the band at some point throughout the night. And I like bigger places, the huge arena/pavillion shows where you're probably not meeting anybody, but you know that going in. In-between places are so indecisive. All of te bands were signing and stuff, but with 1400 people there, the line was kind of obnoxious.

But, back to the concert. Doors opened at 6:30, Dad and I managed to get somewhat awkward but decent spots on the upper level of the place (because there was no way we were dealing with the sardines down below) despite being pretty far back in line. Started at 6:50 with Go | Radio. I'd heard them before at the Secondhand Serenade show last August, and remain not terribly unimpressed. No idea what they played - mostly because the speakers were turned up obnoxiously loud. Around 7:20 the next band, Runner Runner (one of the two reasons I was there, and also from the SS show) came on. They only did 5 songs, which made me sad, but still. So Obvious, Heart Attack, I Can't Wait, Hey Alli, Unstoppable. Ryan, the lead singer, intro'd I Can't Wait by being adorable and saying that he wrote the song for his fiancee and this was the first show she'd get to hear it live at. They were pretty awesome. However, some security guy interrupted my picture taking during RR to tell me that my camera was professional and that I couldn't use it. Typically, professional cameras are generally defined as cameras with detachable lenses. More specifically, if it has more than a 6 inch lens. Mine meets neither of those requirements and the lighting was such shit in there that I couldn't get many decent pictures anyway. Dad did not get yelled at, so we switched cameras (his has a slightly smaller lens) and we continued taking pictures.

8:00 and Valencia started. Never heard anything by them before, don't particularly care to. As soon as they started the crowd started moshing. Can someone please explain the appeal of this to me? I just don't get it. If I paid to see a concert, I want to see the concert. I did not pay to be shoved around and squished against twenty people and elbowed constantly in the ribs. Seriously, watching that happen from up above was INSANE. And the band just spurred them on. (I'm STILL in awe over the Rehab/Uncle Kracker concert from last year - what I thought would be the craziest band ever told an already mild crowd to keep it calm! WHY CAN'T ALL BANDS DO THAT???) But, anyway. At 9, Anarbor started. They were equally as mosh-pitty, and they even ended up with crowd-surfers (which is just a whole new level of idiocy). The only song I recognized was You & I, from the Scooby Doo: Mystery Begins soundtrack. At the end of their set, their guitarist surfed across the crowd for a good few minutes. Ugh. Fucking stupid people.

Finally, at 10, A Rocket To The Moon started. Played: On Your Side, She's Killing
Me, ?, Give A Damn, If Only They Knew, On A Lonely Night, ?, Who Are You When I'm Not Looking (Blake Shelton Cover), Baby Blue Eyes, ?, Just Another One, Life Of The Party, Like We Used To. Encored with Annabelle and Mr. Right. ON like the... second song of their set another security guy asked us if we had Photo Passes, we said no, he told us we had to stop. Two minutes later he returned, said "I don't care, I saw nothing." And left us alone for the rest of the show. So that was nice.

Over at 11:15, home by midnight. Dad bitched at me all afternoon because he was exhausted at work, but he agreed to the insanity so it's his own damn fault. And we ahve another concert on Wednesday.
