G.I. Joe - paled in comparison to Inglourious Basterds. We saw this one first. It was a good movie - I spent most of it trying to ascertain whether or not Duke was Channing Tatum. For a whiel I thought he was the dude from Tokyo Drift. Zach - the one who read the cast list - verified that it was Channing Tatum while we were chilling between the two movies. It was also an insanely predictable movie. We both called it that Rex would be the Doctor/Commander. And we both called it that they were going to replace the president with Sir Whistles-A-Lot. Nice action and effects though. Good flick. But...
Inglourious Basterds - EPIC. While somewhat gorey (though not as bad as Saw or Hostel or anything - which, btw, they're making Hostel III, I've discovered. Why, Eli? Whyyyyyy?) and not for anyone easily offended by the obvious content of the movie, it was AWESOME. Brad Pitt plays Lt. Aldo Raine. His accent is ridiculous. Especially when he attempts to speak in Italian. Attempts is pushing it, actually. The movie is not as actiony as the previews make it out to be. Zach even joked that we accidentally walked into 'Metal Gear Basterds' instead. Metal Gear Solid games, for those who aren't video game obsessed/do not have video game obsessed siblings, are notorious for their ludicrously lengthy cut-scenes of non-stop dialogue between bits of actiony fun. Which... well... pretty accurately descibes IB. But, it's not boring dialogue. Oh, and be prepared to do some reading. About 1/3 of the movie is in English. 1/3 in German, 1/3 in French - sub'd obviously. Someone actually fell asleep during the movie and was snoring kind of obnoxiously loudly. Im chalking that up to said person not getting enough sleep as I - nor anyone else - certainly wasn't falling asleep. Eli Roth (<3) played Donny Donowitz, who is about as ridic insane as he always is. He also utters the phrase 'fuck a duck!' as an excited exclamation. It is epically amazing. Probably mostly just to me, as I have had several IRL conversations involving said phrase. Oh, and this part here, coming up, is the part where I start talking about who lives/dies and all that, so, if you don't wanna see that, I'd go back now. There won't be anything after it.
I'm sad that Donny had to die for no real reason at all. He could have gotten out. I mean... I realize he was likely going in with the intention of dying for the cause of killing Hitler - I mean, hell, he walked in with dynamite strapped to his ankle - but, once the fire started - which, granted, they didn't know about ahead of time - he and Omar could have hightailed it and left their bombs behind. Only the doors into the actual theater part were locked, if I recall correctly. They could have gotten out from where they were up in the box - as they had to get out of the theater to get to the box. T_T
Alternatively, I'm surprised that Aldo lived. Plus, that was quite possibly the stupidest deal ever made. 'Hey, I won't make that call and ruin your plan if you give me what I want!' -- 'Okay, yeah, sure. You can have whatever teh hell you want... until our plan is through.' There's no reason to honor the deal once the plan works or fails. Time frames make such deals a little insane. By the time tehy got to American Lines, the plan would have happened already, with or without teh fire. And, either a. the plan worked, Hitler and Co. are dead, and they didn't need Landa, or b. it didn't work, Donny and Omar are captured/dead, and they don't need Landa because they have nothing left to work with. But, anyway, yeah. When they did get to Am Lines, I was kind of expecting Landa to turncoat again and take out Aldo and the other one, just because he could. But, no. He went quietly. Soon as Aldo got control, I knew that was ending with some nice new scars for Landa.
Awesome movie. For sure.
Blue October/Switchfoot concert is tonight. Then I'm heading to JL's to go to Ocean City til Wednesday for an impromptu 'OMGNOSUMMERCAN'TBEOVERALREADY D:' vacation. :3
