“It’s simplistic, I know. But one of the best ways to show it is that when, following the defeat of Japan, Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai start this push towards trying to get rid of Chung Kai-Shek’s government, how It would work is this: When the fighting starts, Chung Kai-Shek’s group would go into a village and go ‘okay, you, you, you, you, you and you, you’re going.’ And then they would send ‘em up to the front and… and these folks are like ‘okay, well where’s our weapons?’ ‘Well just hang on, there’ll probably be some when these other guys die.’ And, and of course the United States, the whoel time, is spending billions of dollars sending to top notch equipment and advisors to China, and where are they? All around Chung Kai-Shek. The guy was a thug, the guy was a gang leader, the guy was corrupt. And, though the 40’s, we backed him, we backed him, we backed him. Why? Because anything that would show not 110% support for him, could be looked upon by political and media outlets as being soft on… communism. Right? Because what was his big shining star for America to back him? He was anti-communist. I mean, can you imagine the job interview? ‘Hey, Chung, how are ya on human rights?’ ‘Oh, I don’t trust people.’ Now, of course, he’s saying it all in Chinese, because he doesn’t speak English. ‘Kay. How are ya on… you know, trying to work within a democratic framework?’ ‘What, and lose power? Nuhuh.’ ‘How are ya about communists?’ ‘Hate ‘em!’ ‘You’re out boy!’ The other stuff we can kinda work around, but, you’re our boy.”

“Now, you’ve had absolutely nothing and you have seen the degradations of what the Westerners do. I mean, you go to a park in in in in… Shanghai. Great big sign in in… in the ligation area, which is where all the diplomats live. Great big sign on a park: No dogs or Chinese allowed! Kind of like our ‘No dogs or Irish’ of the early 1900’s…? No dogs or.... IT’S CHINA!”

“By ’49, Harry Truman says ‘supplying Chung Kai-Shek is like pissing down a well. Never will fill it up.’ And…. And those are the actual words. I mean, there’s a great story about how, ugh, Harry Truman, whenever he’d get mad would say ‘oh, that’s nothing but a bunch of manure! Just… just manure!’ Right? And someone said to his wife, ‘Bess, can you get him to stop saying manure?’ And Bess says ‘It took me ten years to get him to use that word!’ So, that was Harry. Harry basically called it as he saw it.”

“And we refuse to… literally, truly, absolutely, beyond the shadow of a doubt, have absolutely no diplomatic relations with the largest, most populated country in the world from 1949 until the 1970’s. We say that that little island is China. That other one? Red China, and they don’t exist. We don’t like them. And it’s not until… which is really interesting, but we’ll get to it. It’s not until the most blatant communist hunter of them all actually goes to China and normalizes relations. Who can go to China and have a communist country become friends with the United Sates? Richard Nixon!”

“The one individual that goes after him [McCarthy] is Edward R. Murrow of CBS news. Dude who always had a cigarette. I tell you, if you’re trying to quit, you have recently quit, or if you haven’t had a cigarette in…. 11 years, be careful with the movie ‘Good Night & Good Luck’. Cause he’s always got one lit. I remember my first time watching it. I was actually in a classroom… maybe this classroom. Someone had left it in my mailbox and I thought ‘Wow, gonna watch it!’ And so, it starts and I’m standing in the back going… *shakes*. And I haven’t had a cigarette since… 1999, you know? That doesn’t mean that I don’t walk out the front doors while you guys are out there going *inhales* Cause I do! Everyone once in a while, I will fire up a stogie, but, but, Murrow… *shakes* Be careful.”

“The other side of this coin, what, what starts to being McCarthy down, is when he takes on… THE ARMY. By 52, 53, 54, the guy figures he is omnipotent. He is the top of the pop, and the fact that his buddy, the one that is his pit-bull. The gentleman there in the very, very nicely coiffed hair, with the very, very nice tie, his name is Roy Cohn. And Cohn… was the egghead intellectual… that McCarthy leaned on. He was the pit-bull, he was the one that went after ‘em. And Cohn had… a a a very close relationship with another gentleman who got drafted. Um, the guy who is also on the staff, who Cohn really liked, was a gentleman by the name of David Schine. Cohn, McCarthy, Schine. Schine gets drafted. And is going to be sent to wherever they do all their trainings and Cohn says ‘No, I don’t want him drafted.’ Follow me? ‘I don’t want my friend to go far.’ Maybe we can get him a commission to the army and then he could be pardoned or the military liaison for the committee. So, McCarthy is then told by Cohn to get Schine a commission. The army says ‘No, we’re not gonna do that!’ And Cohn says ‘It’s not fair!!!! I want him to stay here!’ If you couldn’t tell from all my subtle hinting, Cohn, was an in-the-closet homosexual. Schine, till the day he died, said that he never was, never had an interest, never had an affair with Cohn. Cohn, of course, said, ‘Yes, he did, he’s just lying.’ Both Cohn and Schine are now dead. We will never, ever know. Nor does it really matter. What does matter is the fact that Roy Cohn, pit-bull for Joe McCarthy was gay and was in the process of trying to find out as many as folks that were, ugh, we’ll say ‘fellow travelers’ with Cohn, in the government, communist or not. The deal is, with the Army gig is Cohn wants Schine to have preferential treatment, Schine doesn’t get it, so what does McCarthy say? There are what? There are communists in the Army [Dude realy needs to get some new material].And what we will get is something called the Army-McCarthy Hearings where television will start to bring McCarthy down.”
