Okay, these were all for the fanfic100 challenge, but I think I kind of died out of that. In fact, I totally forgot I did any of them. I had 5 done evidently, so I thought I'd post them. Sorry in advance for how much room this is bound to take up.

Genre: Drama. Angst.

Word Count: ~400
Pairings/Characters: Adam/Lawrence
Synopsis: Following their escape from Jigsaw, can Adam and Lawrence survive normal life?
Comments: Okay, here's prompts 1, 2, and 3. Ummm... yeah. Theyre pretty short. Enjoy. Not mine.

001 Beginnings

Sure, the two of them had not had a normal start to their relationship by any means. Murderous plots and decaying bathrooms generally did not make two people fall in love.

Sure, trauma bonds the people who go through it. But they were different. They’d hardly been apart since they’d escaped that hell.

It was understandable, even Allison tolerated it at first. They were the only two in that bathroom, and, though she had gone through Jigsaw’s game herself, she wasn’t there. Adam and Lawrence were, and they were the only ones who understood how the other felt.

So, they hadn’t had a great start, Lawrence thought, Adam’s head on his chest as the two of them slept. But they were sure as hell making up for it.

002 Middles

They’d been through enough at the beginning of their relationship to last a lifetime. The obstacles they’d overcome in their time together much more than any other couple would have ever had to withstand. Between the trauma of Jigsaws game and Lawrence’s divorce he and Adam had really had enough.

Still, they had their fights, on occasion. Usually about simple little things, like everyone. But then someone would go to bed mad and wake up with one of their horrible Jigsaw related dreams and that would be the end of the fight.

They’d nearly lost each other too many times for stupid things like that to matter much. After all, who knew how long they had together when they’d both already heated death?

They were happy together, with Diana, too, sometimes. And that was all they needed.

003 Ends

It ended in a fight. A huge fight. Lawrence didn’t even remember what the fight had been about, maybe a bill, or Adam being late coming home one night. It didn’t matter now.

Because he’d nearly lost his Adam. It had nearly been the end.

Somehow, yet again, Adam had survived. Nothing so heinous as Jigsaw this time, but a simple car accident. He’d gotten a call at three in the morning telling him that Adam had just been admitted and needed surgery.

He’d nearly died. And Lawrence hadn’t even known until it was almost too late.

Sitting by his lover’s side, Diana asleep beside Adam on the hospital bed, he swore it wouldn’t end like this. Adam would wake up, damn it, because after everything they’d been through, it simply could not end like this.

006. Hours

It seemed like eternity to Adam, as he sat in the pitch blackness of that damned bathroom, waiting to die, waiting to be rescued. He’d screamed himself hoarse so quickly after the man on the floor had trapped him again. He was alone, Lawrence wasn’t coming back, and he was going to die.

Tears spilled down his face and he felt pathetic for crying, but he was losing hope. Every second that passed felt like days to him. The gunshot would his cellmate had inflicted before he left had finally stopped bleeding, but he was almost positive that was infected, if the paralyzing pain in his arm had any say.

He was sure days had passed before he’d heard the first sounds outside the heavy metal door. ‘Over here!’ someone had shouted, no doubt following the trail of blood Lawrence had left behind.

Adam choked out another sob and covered his eyes with his hands when the door slid open and the light poured in. “Help!” He begged. “Help me!”

Two police officers quickly crossed the blood-soaked room, reaching his side, both gasping at the bloodbath before them. “Sir, are you injured?” One finally managed.

He nodded weakly, gesturing to his injured arm and ankle. He’d done some damage to it, struggling against the chain.

“Don’t worry; we’ll get you out of here.” They assured him, calling for an ambulance and a pair of heavy-duty bolt cutters. “You’ll be okay.”

“Lawrence? What… happened to him?” His voice was coming back to him. “Is he okay?”

The officer who’d radioed for help answered him. “Dr. Gordon has been admitted to the hospital.”

He could see the clock again, he realized, looking to the only clean item in the room. They’re time limit had only expired hours ago. The hands read 10:46, less than five hours had passed since he’d watched Lawrence saw off his own foot.

“He’s okay, right? He’ll be okay?”

“It looks good. He was pretty out of it when we saw him, but he constantly rambled on about how he promised he’d send help for you. He’s lucky. You’re lucky.” The officer informed him, as another officer arrived with the paramedics and required tools.

Only minutes later, he was free of the chains and being carried out of that dreaded room. “I want to see him.” Adam demanded, once safely in the back of the ambulance. “I need to see him.” After all, the man had made good on his promise, sending help back for a complete stranger. He had a lot of changes to make in his life now that Lawrence had given him the chance.

Who knows? A few more hours and he might not have had this opportunity.

007 Days

It had taken days for them to finally allow him to visit Lawrence. Between his own infected shoulder and his cellmate’s foot, the doctors had been busy. He’d undergone two surgeries, nothing compared to Lawrence five.

But, finally, they’d let him go to see the older man. “Hey.” He said softly, taking a seat in the chair beside Lawrence’s bed. “You holding up okay?”

He nodded. “Diana came to visit me earlier. I didn’t want her to see me like this, but…” Lawrence trailed off. “I’m glad they got you out okay.”

“For a while I didn’t think -you- had.” He paused, unsure of whether or not he needed to know about their not so dead friend in the middle of the room. He bit his lip, deciding against it.

However, his attempts to hide it were quickly dismissed when Lawrence reached out, taking his good hand. “Whatever you’re debating about telling me, just tell me. I’m going to find out sooner or later.”

Adam nodded, scooting the chair closer. “The body, on the floor between us in there. It was him. And he was alive.”

The color drained from the blonde’s face. “Oh, God.” He stared in horror at the younger man, sick to his stomach with the thought. “I left you alone in there with that psychopath!?”

“He didn’t touch me.” He shrugged, holding back the terror he’d felt when he’d been trapped again. “He told me there was a key. Then he locked the door and left. I was more worried he’d do something to you.”

“A key?” Lawrence gawked. “There was a key?”

Adam held up his injured hand, set in a plaster cast. “Down the drain in the bathtub. I couldn’t get it.”

“God, Adam. I’m so sorry… If I had known…” Lawrence covered his eyes, shaking his head in disbelief.

The younger wasn’t looking for sympathy, though, and shrugged off the response. “Hey, we’re both out of there and getting better, right? Let’s focus on that instead, okay?” He prompted, an out of character glass-half-full attitude in place for the benefit of his friend.

Lawrence actually smiled at that. “Sounds like a good plan.”

008 Weeks

Lawrence isn’t allowed to leave the hospital for a while, several weeks after Adam is discharged. And he has a lot of physical therapy after that. It’ll be a long and bumpy road, especially since Allison’s started talking about moving to California now that the divorce is almost final.

But, even if she does leave, and he and Adam both know it’ll be Diana’s leaving more so than Allison that will crush Lawrence, they both also know that Adam will be there to pick up the pieces.

Just like he’s helping out now. Adam’s been out for a little over two weeks now, and all he’s done so far is Lawrence-proof his new apartment. He’s sharing this one with Lawrence, since he doesn’t think living with Allison will help any of them. All of Adam’s things are already here - he couldn’t bring himself to go back to his old one, so he had his old super send his things over – and Allison is bringing some of Lawrence’s things over later, when she picks him up from the hospital.

She’s not overly thrilled with her husband choosing to hang out with the likes of him, Adam, knows, but she wasn’t in the bathroom with them, so they have that bond and no one else will ever understand.

The point is, though, that Lawrence is still hanging onto him, despite all of Adam’s expectations on the matter. All his life, he’s never had anything like that with anyone else. Someone who’s counting on him to help them out. Like Lawrence is now.

And that’s the door, Allison’s here with several boxes. Diana, too. Diana, at least, likes him. She draws him pictures and carries around the teddy bear he gave her from the hospital gift shop like it’s her lifeline.

“Larry’s down in the car. Can you help him in?” Allison asks him, and he heads down to help.

“Hey, Adam.” Lawrence says with a smile. He throws an arm over Adam’s good shoulder and the two slowly make their way inside. He deposits Lawrence safely on the couch before he heads back out to grab some of the other boxes.

“So, Diana, you gonna come visit us?” Adam asks, as she sets a framed photo of she and her father down on the table beside the couch.

The little girl grins. “Yeah!” She giggles, sitting on the arm of the couch beside the both of them.

For the first time since they woke up in the bathroom, Adam thinks maybe they’ll all be okay.

009 Months

Allison does end up moving to California, but she’s kind enough to leave Diana with them. A fact for which both Lawrence and Adam could not be more grateful.

It’s been a handful of long, hard months, filled with physical therapy appointment and everyone getting back to something resembling a routine. Lawrence is back to his job at the hospital, only with restrictions on his movement that drive him insane. Adam took a job as a photography professor’s assistant at a local college. Diana’s at a new school and making new friends. She’s on a soccer team and loves it when Adam comes to pick her up afterwards. They adopt a dog, both for Diana’s benefit and maybe a little bit for protection – not that either man would admit that – and for a while they have the whole messed up white picket fence scenario going on.

Until Allison comes back, anyway. She’s there to collect Diana. They haven’t heard from her in two months and now she’s on their doorstep asking if they’d mind sending Diana’s things out west.

Diana’s crying, clinging to Sandy, her teddy bear, and Henley, the German shepherd that rarely left the girls side. “I don’t wanna go!” She cried.

Adam and Lawrence weren’t planning to let her, either. Adam drover her over to her friend Kylie’s house and let Lawrence and Allison talk it out. On the way, he took Diana for ice cream and spent most of that time assuring her that they weren’t going to let her go.

When he returned, Lawrence was alone and Allison’s car was gone. He found Larry sitting at the kitchen table.

“She’s staying.” Lawrence said, and Adam heaved a relieved sigh.

“How’d you get rid of Allison?” He asked.

Lawrence pushed the photo album across the table. “I showed her this. Showed her how happy Diana is here. She didn’t have the heart to take her away from us.”

Adam flipped through the first few pages. They were photos, most of which he’d taken, of the three of them at various locations. The zoo, the beach, the carnival…

He couldn’t believe how much his life had changed. Smiling, as he reached over to Lawrence, he thought aloud. “I wouldn’t trade this for anything.”

010 Years

Diana’s all grown up now, in high school and with a football player for a boyfriend. Lawrence doesn’t quite approve, but Adam seems to have warned him off efficiently enough.

Adam’s had work published in magazines and newspapers now, with the help of the professor he’d worked for. The jobs pay pretty well and he does some work for schools sometimes, too.

Lawrence’s leg is about as good as it’s ever going to be. He has his off days, when it hurts so much he can’t get out of bed, but for the most part, he’s back to normal. His job at the hospital is strictly administration now, with only the occasional interaction with the patients.

All in all, they’re all happy.

Jigsaw is a distant memory, the occasional torment in the form of nightmares and street paranoia. They’ll never forget the hours spent in the hell, but it doesn’t rule their lives like it did those first few years. They’re alive, they’re together and the lunatic behind their attack has recently been named.

It’s the first time since back then that he’s really been the focus of a conversation.

But, the police officers who break the case call them up one day to inform them of the news.

“His name was John Kramer.” The officer informs them.

“Was?” Adam inquires.

“He was deceased when we discovered him. If someone hadn’t killed him, the brain tumor would have, the Medical Examiner said.”

With this information, they sit in silence for a moment, just staring at each other.

“He’s dead.” Adam says, in something akin to amazement in his eyes. “He’s really dead.”

Lawrence reaches out to him, as he has so many times before. “It’s over, finally.”

“Finally.” Adam echoes.

The sudden darkness of the room panicked him at first, he screamed and screamed until his throat hurt, and still he kept screaming. On his knees and sobbing, something caught his eye, pulling himself over to the edge of the bathtub.

The key! He could see that fluorescent blue light that had been in the tub with him when he’d first woken up here.

He plunged his left hand into the drain, cringing as his flesh scraped against the rusty metal. If he made it out of here he knew he was in for some tetanus shots, but he shoved his fingers in further, bones cracking in protest.

Adam really couldn’t bring himself to care about the pain as he reached for the key that was just barely out of reach. His fingers brushed the light gently, he pushed further, a knuckle sliding into the metal ring.

“Oh, God…” He exclaimed in joy, removing his hand with some difficulty, key chain still in place. Using the dim blue light as a guide he jammed it into the lock on his ankle, overjoyed when it gave a satisfactory click and fell open.

He rubbed at the sore flesh for a moment before climbing to his feet.

Fearing the worst, he grabbed Zep’s discarded gun, testing it’s weight in his left hand before moving toward the door.

“Lawrence?” Adam called softly, unaware if Jigsaw had done anything to his cellmate, even if he was gone yet.

He stumbled over the corpse while following the trail of blood Lawrence had left, it was Bob, Detective Tapp, whatever… the man who’d paid him to follow the Doctor. “That’s not a good sign.”

“Adam?” He heard someone gasp from a few feet ahead. It was Lawrence.

He ran to the older mans side. “Lawrence? I’m going to go get help. I’ll be right back, I promise.” The amount of blood around the area scared him, as he climbed the ladder the other man had gotten stuck at. “I promise.”

The exit wasn’t much further, he realized, finally making it outside. A car, presumably Zep’s, was parked outside, abandoned. It was then that Adam discovered that they were at the abandoned sewage plant. “Cell phone… cell phone…” He ordered himself, ignoring the agonizing pain he was in as he used both hands to search the vehicle. “Yes!”

He dialed 911, quickly explaining the situation and ecstatic to hear the sirens approach several minutes later. Realizing he’s wasted enough time, he led the paramedics and police officers to Lawrence, the blonde near death as he was wheeled into the ambulance.

Adam climbed in as well, gripping Lawrence’s hand in his own as they drove to the hospital. “We’re okay now.” He assured the older man. “We’re okay.”

024 Family

I spotted Adam lurking outside the door of my hospital room. It had become routine. Even now that he’d been released he still came by every day. But, Allison and Diana had interrupted this time, and, not that I didn’t love seeing them, I regretted that they had chosen right then to come visit.

“Daddy, when are you coming home?” Diana asked me, scribbling random drawings on the cast on my right leg. “I miss you…”

“I miss you, too, honey, but I can’t come home quite yet. I promise I’ll be there, soon, alright?” I gave the only answer I could. I’d be here at least another week, and that was the optimistic end. If my ankle got infected again I’d be here for quite some time.

My little girl wrapped her arms around me, holding tight. “I want you to come home!”

“I know… I know, baby. I want to go home, too.” I assured her, running my fingers through her hair. I looked up in time to see Adam’s retreating form and I called his name to get his attention. “Hey, come back!”

Nervously, I watched him enter the room, standing on the opposite side of the bed from Allison. “Hey, Lawrence.”

“Adam. This is my wife, Ally, and my daughter, Diana. Girls, this is Adam.” I couldn’t figure out why this had been the first time they’d crossed paths, but it was, I realized as Adam nodded politely and offered a hand.

Then he smiled at Diana. “I’ve heard a lot about you, Diana. I hear you’re quite the artist.” Having been complimented, she proceeded to drag him over to the small table across the room to draw him a picture.

“So, that’s him, huh?” Ally asked me, taking in the other man, and I nodded. “I’ll sign the divorce papers tonight, and bring them by for you tomorrow. I hope your happy with him.” She smiled, she’d taken the news I dropped on her better than I had expected, but then again, our marriage had long since been over.

“We will.” I promised. “Thank you.”

She nodded, stepping over to the table. “Honey, we need to go. You have a doctor’s appointment in an hour. Say goodbye to Daddy.”

My daughter handed Adam the now completed drawing before returning to me, giving me a hug and a kiss on the cheek before taking her mothers hand. “Bye, Daddy. Bye, Adam.”

“Thanks for the picture, Diana!” Adam called, echoing my own ‘see you soon’ before flopping into the chair beside me. “I didn’t know they were coming.”

I smiled. “You don’t need to avoid them, you know. Allison knows. And Diana’s fallen in love with you.” I assured him, taking his hand. “You were fantastic with her.”

“She -is- an excellent artist.” He complimented, handing over the paper she’d given him. The drawing featured the three normal components of the majority of her drawings; herself and Allison and I, but a fourth figure was present as well, the ‘Adam’ scrawled over his head indicated who it was.

“’Thanks for saving my Daddy‘.” I read off of the back of the page, grinning. “See, your already part of the family.”

‘What if he doesn’t get out?’ Adam’s mind reeled as he sat in the darkness of the bathroom that was to be his death. He’d already screamed himself hoarse since the man they’d presumed to be dead trapped him again. ‘What if that psychopath kills Lawrence?’

His only chance at surviving would be taken away. If. If Jigsaw got to Lawrence it would be over. But, he wouldn’t. Lawrence had to get out. Because the doctor had promised him that he’d get help. And right now, Adam couldn’t focus on the If’s.

When. When Lawrence makes it out of here. When Lawrence gets help. When he could hug the man that saved his life and thank him for not taking the easy way out and just shooting him from the beginning. When he sees Lawrence again.

Not If.

These are kinda old, but apparently I just somehow missed them. Anyway, thanks for rocking the Adam/Larry out! I love it. I really thought the idea of Adam as the shadow outside of Larry's room was very characteristic of him. <3!
