Ugh. I have to think up a topic for my first speech by Thursday. It can't involve visuals and it has to last 5 minutes. Can't be demonstrative, either. And no opinions allowed. Strictly informative.

So far, I've considered:

-Homeschooling, but I think my bias towards that would probably snake its way in.
-DNA Fingerprinting and its uses and stuff, but thats kind of boring and explaining it alone would probably take five minutes.
-Maybe something to do with Shelter Dogs & Cats and stuff, however, thats really depressing. Especially since one of my dogs isnt doing so well anymore.
-The Addictive Properties Of Daytime Television. That started out as a joke while listening to my mom swear she's not watching General Hospital anymore while simultaneously planning our trip to Disney in November for Super Soap Weekend.
-Maybe something to do with Horror Movies or the supernatural.

Any ideas/suggestions/opinions on above topics?

ETA: Also, if anyone has fic requests...?

I remember my friends English class did something similar to this for the oral exam; Yasmin did the campaign for new Pringle flavours and Kier got in trouble for doing his about a campaign for safe sex in Ghana because the teacher said he was taking the mic.

If you want my opinion just talk about something you like, are enthusiatic about and know a lot about; so horror movies could be a good idea, perhaps refine it down to a psychoanalytical study of a particular movie monster and how it could relate to society: i.e. the comparison to vampirism and drugs, or between lycanthropy and homosexuality.

Fic requests, yay! :P Just something really slashy will do me :D

Its a Speech class, and this is the awesome professor, so they're really aren't liimits to what we can do (aside from you know, like illegal stuf, obviously).

I was thinking maybe the differences between horror movies of the past in comparison to today. Maybe. Who knows?

Ooh, can do. Any particular fandom?

I'm thinking The Addictive Properties of Daytime Television. I still sometimes watch soap operas, if I'm awake for them. I never did watch much of General Hospital, though. I was more of a Days of Our Lives fan.

I've been watching GH since I was 12. My mom watches GH, and some of the other ABC soaps, but mostly GH. at least once a week one of us says something about it being so stupid and why on earth do we watch this nonsense? xD

I have to look on the research databases and see f I can find any info that'd be helpful =)

The Addictive TV thing sounds good.
But I like the Horror/Supernatual one too, possibly because I did most of my school speaking in my courses on that too.

[i was a wiccan/supernatural/occult nerd!]

I did one of witch craft and the witch trials and I did another one on the myth of Halloween. ^_^

They were fun.
For our TV/Movie class I wrote a paper on the stereotypes of modern horror/thriller movies and how the production/writing and style has changed over the last 50 years.

It was fun.

i vote for addicting soap operas!
do you have to write your own speech or is it like forsenics where you have to find a monologue?

We write out own. We have to have an outline and everything, and we're allowed speaking notes, so, yeah. Seems I've managed to tie between Daytime TV and Horror Movies xD

Lol, we haven't done the speeches yet, not til like... the 23rd or something. He has to teach us how to make the outlines and speaking notes first.

I kind of like the shelter animals one, even if it is depressing. I'm sorry about your doggie. I hope he/she gets better or at least doesn't experience any pain. I'm away at college now and I'm missing my dogs more than anything. Both my boys are shelter dogs and they are so important and helpful.

Horror movies sounds kinda cool too though. I'm not a daytime tv person so I'm gonna go against the crowd with that one.

My doggies not doing too bad, its just that hes getting old and not moving like he used to and stuff like that. But. its depressing, cause he was my first one. He was a shelter doggie, so, yeah. I'm thinking I mght do this one for my second speech, though. Maybe. Leaning towards horror movies on this one, it seems.

Thanks <3
