“I’m really kind of disappointed in you guys. Your excuses for getting out of things, according to all of my colleagues, have really tumbled this semester. You guys used to be really good at coming up with excuses, and now this year you just say ‘Oh, swine flu!’ You know? I mean, jeez. The, the, ugh, the greatest most confusing one I’ve ever gotten was ‘I had to get my cat neutered’. Girl missed an exam and I got a whole long email about how her male cat had gotten out and impregnated all of these other cats and she couldn’t make it to take the exam because it was very important for her to go and get her cat neutered and the cat was blah blah blah. And I’m like, WHAT? Oh, it was good, it was good, I thought that one was… // Girl: She sent you pictures? Sonograms? Anything? // Guy: Sonograms, why would there be…? // R: You know, I should have! But, ugh… no. I don’t wanna see pictures. Especially of that operation. I’ve had to put horses through that before. I always have nightmares for, you know, like months… Anyhow. That why whenever someone says ‘do you want a plate of mountain oysters I go ‘NOOO!’ Right? Mountain Oysters? *silence* // Guy: Ew? // R: Ew! Yeah, ew. Know what they are? // Guy: No, and since most of this class evidently doesn’t, I’m not sure you wanna tell ‘em. // R: Testicles. Bull testicles. That’s what mountain oysters are. Them’s real good eatin’ in the West Virginia Hills. They don’t have much access to things that live in water cause most of the water is polluted and fish and have four eyes and eight tails. You know, so, mountain oysters.”
“But, ‘The Green Berets’ with *starts accent* John Wayne. I tell ya, that one is really good. Cause the cavalry has come to Vietnam. *end* And what they do is the grab up a whole bunch of Japanese and Korean actors to portray Vietnamese ‘cause it was made during the height of the Vietnam war. So, of course, can’t… you know. Oh! One of ‘em you do see is Mr. Sulu. From Star Trek, okay? He’s there as one of the South Vietnamese. ‘Yes, Captain, we will go into the fort with all the other men.’ Anyhow… no, we won’t go there. “
“There’s a letter put together by Alabama Clergymen. That basically says – you guys oughta cool it. What’s the sense in doing all this when you’re gonna get yourself arrested? That what we need to do is “we are now confronted by a series of demonstrations by some of our Negro citizens, directed and led in part by” – and this is always the key word. Outsiders. Kay? And what’s happening here is that, what we need to do is we need to kind of stay within our place, do we not? You see what these folks are saying here? ‘We understand that there’s problems. But what we need to do, is we need to show restraint. And remain calm and protect our city from violence, etc… What’s Dr. King think of all this? // Girl: He doesn’t like it. // He doesn’t like it. No. Not at all. And where is he sitting when he decides to write a letter? // Girl: In a chair. // In a chair. Yes. And where is that chair? He’s sitting in a chair in jail. And what does he write? // Guy: Stuff. // Stuff. Jeez. In a chair. Stuff. You guys… ”
“No, this whole sense of nonviolence. What is nonviolence? It’s to win that person over. Kay? It’s your willingness to suffer. Violence is – ‘I’m gonna beat the snot out of you until you say ‘I’m done!’’ But, if Jess just sits there and I keep pounding on her, its like ‘Damn it, girl! Come on, say ‘uncle!’’ and she doesn’t. Oh, crap.” (<- that one's actually from Monday, but I forgot to type it up.)
