We were talking about Maori culture again in Anthro. Since I sit on teh end of the row, I was vollunteered for something. And that would be this. The hongi. Slightly awkward, mostly amusing.

Health was irritating. We were supposed to have a test, but Prof spent the first 50 minutes of class talking to us about this fucking huge project we have to do. Groups of 4. Assigned a chapter. 90 minute presentation. Each of us has to write a paper. Of course, I end up in the group that goes first. -_- And then, he didn't have enough tests for all of us, so the three of us in teh front row split one. I was first finished so I had to keep waiting. I was the first one done. Got out 20 minutes early, so I went and talked to Robertson for the rest of the time. (His office is right around the corner). We were talking about New Zeland and books and stuff. Twas cool.

I remember having to hongi the elders of an entire tribe when I was out in Aotearoa since we were working on their marae and went through the ceremony to welcomed to it and their land. As you say, slightly awkward, at least to start with.

I wish I could still remember some of the greetings and whatnot that they taught us. About all I can manage any more is kia ora.

Ah well, I guess I'll learn more when I emigrate (not that that's going to happen for a while, but nevermind).

Wow, that's cool. :3 He taught us Kia Ora, too. And we did the Haka at the beginning of the semester. Yet another interesting experience. xD
