So, we have a killer bird living in the tree beside our front door. (I am tempted to end the entry at that)

I guess its protecting it's territory or its mate or something, I dunno, but there's this rather dedicated Cardinal that comes kamikaze-ing out of its tree. It flutters around by the door and rams itself into the glass door/window - which is not a brilliant idea. Then it sits on the railing and glares at you, daring you to move closer. We spent a good ten minutes trying to get by it, and it finally flew off in another direction and we hurried inside.

Was, for sure, amusing/interesting/WTF.

Hanna and I had a similar experience with a swan that was guarding its mate and their nest of eggs. We spent twenty minutes nervously trying to get by without getting pecked in the groin until some guys on the other side of the canal helped out by throwing bread to distract it.

We used to have a male cardinal that lived around here that ran into ours and our neighbors windows repeatedly...he lived for about 3 years and did it every spring, and we tried everything to get him to stop, putting up newspaper in the windows, etc....I think some cardinals are just crazy overprotective and very special in the head. XD
