So, saw Inception and The Sorcerer's Apprentice today. On four hours of sleep. Which made Inception feel really, really long. But, nonetheless...
1. Inception: First, I was amused that I kept seeing silly little references to DiCaprio films. A, in the beginning when they kick him into the bathtub and he sees windows crashing in with water? Titantic-y much? B. References to extradition difficulties between the US and France, that would be Catch Me If You Can? Yes/No?
I was confused for like the first five minutes of the movie when the go a little scene-jump crazy. But I followed along easily enough. Don't know what some of the people I talked to about it had trouble with.
As for slashiness... Arthur/Eames. And Cobb/Ariadne is cool, too. Ellen Page is cool. And not irritating like Cobb's wife - even her voice got on my nerves (though that (as well as the DiCaprio Movie references) might have something to do with 4 hours of sleep).
As for the ending... That damned top stopped spinning. I don't care. Someone panned away/ran out of film before it fell. So there. Hah.
2. The Sorcerer's Apprentice: Hnnng, Mentor(Rather, Master, I suppose?)/Protege!!!! I am hopeless. Entirely. David was just quirkily adorable. Like Jesse Eisenberg was in Cursed/Zombieland. Just that awkwardly adorable. It was Disney, so it was entirely predictable. But, I. Do. Not. Care. It had Nick Cage and it had Mentor/Protege dynamics. I was sold based on that alone. Ugh... And Merlin related stuff. Always cool.
Balthazar was a bit creepy in the beginning when he met David for the first time. But it was still awesome. I like the Balthazar never got really mad at Dave, even when he kind of deserved it. I like that Dave didn't go showing off his sorcery and stuff to Becky before the big battle stuff when he needed her help. I like that it wasn't because of some stupid (girl related) mistake on Dave's part that Horvath and Drake (Lmao, just... idek) found the lab (and Balthazar, who fell for their trick way too easily). I like that Dave saved Balthazar at the end, and that it didn't just require a kiss from his long lost love. Loved the throw back to the Sorcerer's Apprentice poem/Fantasia bit, too. Even if the musically inclined Tesla Coils were a bit out there and they loved shooting their plasma balls a little too much.
There needs to be more Balthazar/Dave fic. Like, now.

Date: 2010-08-08 08:06 pm (UTC)As for The Sorcerer's Apprentice, it was exactly what I was looking for: a typical Disney/Bruckheimer movie. The lines were cute, the special effects were fun, and the plot wasn't complex. I loved the mop scene (and had the Fantasia song stuck in my head for the next few days) and Jay Baruchel is absolutely adorkable. Also, Drake was hilarious.
I'm glad you enjoyed the movies as much as I did.
