1. Signed up for NaNoWriMo, again. Before [livejournal.com profile] suerum can talk em into it again. Here is a link to my NaNo profile, if anyone wants to be writing buddies.

2. Yay, get to see Lifehouse this weekend. And the parents. Actually, we get to meet Lifehouse this weekend. :D

3. blwjefl;nsdfgf Stupid annoying Literature of the Revolution paper. I am comparing Joseph Andrews with Charlotte Temple and it is long and boring and blaaaah. I am something mildly close to halfway done.

4. If anyone is interested...

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. (If you absolutely can't write, maybe find a creative alternative?) (Only if you want to and haven't already.)

Thoughts From Me: Please write the pairing/fandom, and a prompt if you feel like leaving one. Stuff I write/know would be preferable, please.

Okay, so I HATE the reciprocity of these things! Then I started thinking, who in the heck goes to my journal anyway? The answer is almost nobody. So, maybe I will risk it. Anyway, the who part is really straightforward of course, Jaspin. I would like a piece where Jason realizes that all this attention he's paying to Michael, Sam and Brenda, etc. has kept him from noticing that Spinelli has his own problems and needs his help.

probably not exactly what you were after but...

He’s really only half listening, half paying any attention at all, really, when he hears the news report about a fire at Kelly’s. He’s too busy trying to deal with Sam being absolutely pissed at him, and Brenda trying to shove her way back into his life, and Michael asking him for help to really let it sink into his brain.

It’s only later, when he realizes he hasn’t seen Spinelli all day that he recalls the news broadcast, and even then the two things are still only sort of abstractly related. After all, Spinelli’s probably at the PI Offices, or off fighting with Maxie or something.

But, still. He breaks away from a lengthy argument with Sam about Brenda moving in because some gut instinct tells him that he needs to check on Spinelli right now.

“Spinelli,” he calls, heading toward the regrettably pink room. He knocks, gets no answer and opens the door to find no trace of the hacker. He tries Spinelli’s phone and receives no answer there, either. Concern starts to build up and he’s brushing by Sam – who is still trying to argue with him over this – and heads out the door without explaining himself at all.

He checks the PI Office and finds no trace of Spinelli there, either. A call to Maxie verifies that she hasn’t seen him recently – nor does she care to, thank you very much – and so Jason is starting in on serious panic mode when the earlier news broadcast really sinks in.

He’s at Kelly’s faster than he really thought it possible to get there and there are paramedics and firefighters pretty much everywhere on the docks. He spots Mac amongst the array of people. “Hey, do you know if Spinelli was around for this?”

Mac’s got something like four other people all trying to talk to him, so all he really manages in response to Jason’s questions is, “Yeah, sent him to the hospital.”

But that’s not really enough of an answer. He glares at the other people trying to get to Mac and they back down. “How bad is he?”

“I don’t know, they were taking him out when I got on scene.”

With that useless bit of information, he’s off again, headed towards General Hospital as fast as he can.

The ER is bustling with activity. Evidently, there were a lot of minor, some major injuries as a result of the fire. Not surprisingly, given that it pretty much started during rush hour at the diner. He’s looking everywhere he can, but he sees no sign of Spinelli.

“Robin,” he calls, catches sight of her on the other side of the large room. He doesn’t even care that she’s with another patient – he needs to know where he can find Spinelli. “They brought Spinelli in?”

“Patrick has him,” Robin tells him, not looking up from the wound she’s stitching. “That’s all I know.”

More searching, more racing from one location to the next. He finally finds a nurse who knows where Dr. Drake is and she points him toward Radiology. Patrick’s just outside of the imaging room. “Jason,” he says calmly, “I was just going to have them call you.”

“Is he okay?”

“He’s got a pretty bad burn on one of his legs and I’m pretty sure he’s got a broken arm. He tripped trying to get out; he told the paramedics who brought him in. He hit his head, too, which is why I caught his case, but it’s just a mild concussion, nothing too serious.”

Jason nods, glad that it wasn’t worse. The relief that hits him when he sees Spinelli get wheeled out of the room a few minutes later is enough to make him entirely forget about his argument with Sam, and the drama over Brenda moving back, and even Michael’s request for help.

The mere idea of losing Spinelli is evidently enough to seriously terrify him. The fact that he’s been brushing Spinelli off for the last few days reminds him that he can lose Spinelli in ways other than by physical injury and it’s that thought right there that makes him completely erase any thought he had of letting Spinelli give up the pink room to Brenda or anyone else, ever.

“Jason,” Spinelli grins a lopsided-pain-medication-induced grin. “Are we returning to Casa de Stone Cold?”

He nods, smiles for what feels like the first time since Brenda showed up and all the stuff with Sam started up, and takes the place of the x-ray tech who’s pushing the wheelchair. “Yeah,” he says, “as soon as we get you fixed up we’ll go home.”

No, you're right, this isn't what I expected but it's totally what I am after ;-). I loved the way that Spinelli was on the fringe of Jason's consciousness, that he knew instinctively something was off. I'm glad Sam and Maxie got dissed and that the pink room now has a new permanent tenant. Most of all I loved how Jason was frantic to get to Spinelli and when he saw him goofy and smiling, everything in his world immediately righted itself. Perfect!!
