So, just went and saw Priest because Paul Bettany is pretty.
It... wasn't that bad, I guess. It wasn't awesome or anything either. I've noticed Paul Bettany seems to like action-y but religious-y movies. I mean, well, with Legion and then this... Only, while the other characters were spouting 'To go against the church is to go against God' stuff, which only served to remind me that I should have been back in my room studying for my two Renaissance and Reformation finals, in both this and Legion, he's defying religious stuff (in Legion, he's defying Gabriel and all of the other angels because he thinks they're wrong and that God can't want them to do what he says he wants them to do) so yeah. I like him a little bit more for that. He also seems to favor slow-motion action scenes. Also, the 'twist' is entirely predictable, you see it coming like ten miles away. Bones (whose character is named Black Hat?) was cool and badass though. And the vampires are weird and apparently there are different vampire things that are never really explained. Familiars, humans turned, I get, but then there's the blob like thing that's just kind of there and then there's the human vampire and a Queen and oh, it's not like the set it up for a sequel or anything. Really. And, unsurprisingly, I kind of want Priest/Hicks fic, just because. Even if I kind of want to hate Hicks for also being James. I don't know. My brain likes slashing Paul Bettany. Usually with guys who are significantly younger than him (Farid in Inkheart, Jeep in Legion...) so yeah.
Also, through the entire movie, I got to hear two different couples hooking up somewhere behind me. That has never happened to me before. WTF. Made for some seriously awkward quiet moments all across teh theater.

Date: 2011-05-14 04:18 am (UTC)Just wondering, did you see it in 2D or 3D?

Date: 2011-05-14 04:21 am (UTC)I saw it in 3D even though I hate 3D and paying for that ticket made me want to stab myself. I can't wait until next summer when the 3dEVERYTHING trend is set to end. There's like one movie theater near by school and it only plays like 5 things at a time and so I didn't have much of a choice if I wanted to see it, sadly. You?

Date: 2011-05-14 04:26 am (UTC)3D ticket prices are stupid expensive. I mean, just for matinee here it was $9. But yeah, saw it in 2D.
Was there actually anything impressive in 3D?

Date: 2011-05-14 04:30 am (UTC)Eh, not really. It rained firey ash and stuff and there were a few brief moments where it was interesting, but I spend most of the time wearing 3D glasses trying to keep them on my face because wearing 3D glasses over regular glasses is clearly something no one who thought up such genius ideas ever had to deal with.

Date: 2011-05-14 04:33 am (UTC)I know the feeling. Someone should really invent some kind of 3D film that one could just apply to the lenses of regular glasses for those that are visually impaired.

Date: 2011-05-14 04:35 am (UTC)That would be awesome. Or like virtual reality helmets or something. Or they could just go back to 2D movies, any option would work.

Date: 2011-05-16 07:30 pm (UTC)I fucking loved it but if you throw in vampires and religiousy themes and Paul Bettany and explosions and fucking fight scenes on top of trains all into one movie I'm gonna be a sucker for it because I am nothing if not a 16 year old boy *g* But yeah I guess they didn't really explain a lot of the plot points, and I'm sure there won't be a sequel because it probably won't do well enough lol Oh well, I'm thinking of reading the comic anyway so that probably has some answers.
