csi_sanders1129We left for the Vertical Horizon show at 6. Got there by 6:30. There were... 2 people ahead of us in line. We sat out under the awning in the rain until 8. Spent some of that time talking to some woman with her daughter and her daughter's best friend who were checking out a nearby college - mom got conned into the show - and we were chatting for a while about anime and jrock and all that stuff I pay virtually no attention to anymore. And Dad was regaling them with grisly 911 tales. Got in at 8, with spots on the rail. Bought a poster. Chilled til 8:30 when the first guy started.
Originally, two bands were supposed to open for them. Just Ginger and Clayton Senne. Senne was there, but instead of Just Ginger, some solo guy - Howard Jennings - was up there. He played for a bit. I have no idea what any of it was, and was off by 9.
9:15, Clayton Senne's Band comes out. Clayton himself is hoarse or something - he was partying in NY last night pretty hard, apparently. He couls sing fine, but talking got funny - his voice cracked and he was like 'Fantastic. I'm 13 again.' He played... a bunch of stuff I don't know. But, he covered Stevie Wonder's 'Superstitious' That was cool. And he had a good song called 'Walk Out The Door'. He was off just after 10.
Took til 10:30 to set up for VH. They played: All Is Said And Done, You're A God, Send It Up, The Lucky One, Shackled, and Carrying On. Then they played an older song - Liverty - acoustically, with just the two main guys of the band. The rest came back out as they started Give You back. Middle Ground, Wash Away, Best I Ever Had, Save Me From Myself, Forever, and Everything You Want. Encored with I'm Still Here, and then the possibly neverending song We Are. They dragged that out for like 10 minutes. Ended at... 12:15.
Got the setlist. Then headed back to the merch table where they'd be signing. Got a poster and the setlist signed, and a picture with Matt Scannell. Out by 12:30. Home by... 1:10.
