Drew's in the middle of a conversation about barn chores with Carole, Stevie, and Lisa when he catches sight of a most alarming figure approaching the stable doors. The look on his face must alert the girls that something is wrong, because they spin around and find themselves similarly alarmed.

"What happened to you?" Stevie wonders, all four of them trying and failing to hold back their laughter at the sight of Red absolutely covered in mud from head to toe.

Red stops at the doorframe, likely unwilling to track in such a mess that he'd only have to clean up later, and sighs a very exasperated sigh. "Barq bumped me into that mud puddle at the bottom of the big pasture," he offers in explanation.

"That wasn't very nice of him," Drew teases, but immediately realizes his mistake. He has drawn attention to himself. His eyes blow wide in fear when Red takes a step over the threshold. "Don't you dare," he says, already quickly backpedaling away from the mischievous look he can see on Red's face. "Don't you even think about daring," he says.

Red laughs, takes a few steps closer, opens his arms wide, "What? Don't want a hug?"

"What? Don't want a shower?" Drew counters, but then on further consideration amends his question, "No, on second thought, who knows what that," here, he pauses, as a large glob of mud squelches off of Red's back and lands on the floor with a wet plop, "would do to the plumbing. I'll happily hose you off outside, though."

"Yeah?" Red challenges, amidst the shrieks of laughter from the Saddle Club. The girls promptly dodge out of the path of this assault by ducking into the relative safety of Starlight's stall, but they egg Red on all the same. He plays along, advancing further as Drew runs out of room to escape. "You could try."

"Or," Drew starts, desperately searching for a way away from the impending mess, "Or, or, you could go to dinner with me," he says, not entirely sure where the words come from. Sure, asking Red out had been a thing he'd wanted to do long before today, but he's not quite sure how he got there from 'please do not cover me in mud'.

It brings Red up short, though, floundering just out of reach. "What?"

"A date," Drew clarifies, just to be sure that Red knows that's what he means. "With me. After you aren't covered in mud, obviously. I don't think anywhere would let us in right now."

At the sound of additional giggles from the trio of pre-teen girls currently watching this play out, Drew shoots a subtle but pointed look in their direction and waits as they begrudgingly sulk their way out of the stalls and out of sight. He knows better than to think they won't be eavesdropping from somewhere less obvious, though.

"You have a deal," he says, offering a truce which Drew is happy to accept. "But, first," he adds, a wicked grin on his face as he quickly ducks in for what was clearly supposed to be little more than a peck of a kiss, just enough contact to get Drew the tiniest bit dirty. It doesn't work out that way, though, because Drew doesn't let him go quite so easily. Nearly automatically, his hands land on Red's hips, keeping him there, pulling him in close. Instantly, he's covered in mud, too, but suddenly he does not care. The kiss deepens, Red's hands land on his shoulder, his neck, and it lasts for a long moment before they finally separate.

Since he's already a mess, he's not surprised when Red doesn't go far, and he's certainly not complaining. "Guess we both need to get rinsed off now," Drew laughs, though he's almost looking forward to the cold water from the hose, he thinks.

No doubt Red is thinking something along the same lines, though, given the way his face is flushed beneath the layer of smeared mud. "Looks like," he agrees.

As casually as he can manage, he asks, "Pick you up at six?" before he leans in to steal another kiss – what does it matter now that they're both a mess?

Drew is considerably muddier when this one ends, as one of Red's hands had found its way into his hair. Still, he figures they should probably stop before someone catches them like this. Sooner or later the Saddle Club will undoubtedly return, and if not them, then, someone – they are making out in the middle of the stables, after all.

"I, ugh," Red quietly stammers. "Yeah, six is good."
